Phase One - Day 2

Day 2 is in the books here at National team training camp and it was a pretty uneventful day.

7:30 Am breakfast was decent but I was up at 6am. Wide awake. Time change got me I guess. We had our first session of training this morning with some testing. We did all kinds of physical tests and it was interesting to see the improvement with some of the kids from last year. After the testing was done we did some walk through of the offense to get the kids prepared for the evening. It wasn’t too bad but a few of the younger kids struggled with it. They will get it after a few days.

Lunch was at noon and then back to my room to get some computer and paperwork done. We had our first on court practice scheduled for 5:30 and it went well. Good intensity at both ends for the most part as we worked on executing on offense and intensity at the defensive end of the floor. Overall the practice was good with lots of work left to be done. The nice add-on for this practice was that I got to see a good friend of mine Rich Chambers. He has been involved with Canada Basketball for a number of years and is a great coach and a great guy. We roomed together out here last year.

After practice we all headed to supper and then came back for a team meeting. We discussed the day and then did a little team exercise. The players also got to be re-introduced to Roger Friesen who is the sport psychologist for the team. He is an extremely interesting guy. I can’t wait to sit in on the sessions with him.

Once the meeting was finished, it was off to Starbucks to discuss some basketball issues and enjoy a few minutes away. A great way to end the day.

So now it is off to video. I will chop up today’s practice and have it ready to watch tomorrow. A great tool for development especially at this level.

Much work to be done. Tomorrow. Same basketball time, Same Basketball Channel!!!!
