Well very quick update. I am not sure how many hours we travelled but we have arrived in Russia. We left on July 1 at 7:30pm from Residence and now it is July 3 at 4:25AM. Factor in times zones and I am lost. We had an uneventful flight here. Had a 6 hour layover in Istanbul and Patrice, our therapist, was nice enough to bring me as his guest to the Turkish Airlines lounge. Basically a private lounge for elite members. It was PHENOMENAL. All kinds of fancy food and drinks. Basically sit and relax, eat what you want, drink what you want, free books, newspapers, magazines, pool table, high speed internet, all the perks. It was a great way to relax. I found out too late you could get free massages and showers as well. Next time perhaps.
We went to our gate at round 8pm and met the rest of the group. We hopped on the plane and took the 3.5 hour flight to Kazan. We were on board with the french soccer teams, and USA Basketball teams plus one of the teams from Turkey. We landed here and there was a nice delegation waiting for us. Pretty smooth and then a 20 minute bus ride to the village. When we got here there was quite a delay. They had to Xray and open every bag. They sent out a memo but we didn't receive it and they took most of our food we brought with us. There is a slight chance we can get it back.
Oh yeah, when we arrived it was bright outside. sun comes up between 330 and 345 and goes down well after 10pm. It is now 4:30AM and it is bright as can be outside.
I grabbed a quick shower and now will try to get some sleep. Wake up is at 9:30 and breakfast at 10. Practice at 4. Let the fun begin. I will update a lot more with pics later today
