Day 18. Is it really day 18. I think I lost track of time. A long day of travel so here is how it went down.
Some of the players and coaches got up early and went downtown Belgrade to tour around. I opted to stay in bed a little longer as I had seen Belgrade before. I headed up to breakfast a little after 9 and I was the only one from our team around. Breakfast was more of the same. meats, cheeses, bread, lasagna, rice, eggs and pizza rolls. yep pizza rolls. Interesting. I met a nice man from San Francisco and his mother from Reno, Nevada. I had a great chat with them for a little while and then I headed back to my room. I got dressed and headed next door to the grocery store. Picked up some treats to take home as I had to use up some of the Serbian Dinars I had left.
Bus was leaving at 11:30 so I headed down and we packed up the bus for the ride to the airport. Flights were on time and we got to Frankfurt smoothly. 1.5 hour flight. Had about a 15 minute walk when we got there and boarded pretty quickly for our next flight. What an awesome time in Germany LOL. We had a little bit of a bumpy ride to France but it was only 50 minutes. Landed in Paris and were able to get our bags relatively smoothly. We got to our bus and the driver and his buddy weren't the nicest. Some things you have to deal with. Well 2 of our staff were delayed inside and the driver decided to leave. He left the guy from the French Basketball Federation and our 2 staff behind. He stopped up the road and then he called the guy and sounded like he was arguing with him. We waited for about 25 minutes on the side of the road and then went back and got them. Adventure #1 in France is complete. We then drove for about 30 minutes to the south suburbs of Paris in a community called Evry. Very nice but certainly a little isolated.
The hotel and the grounds are outstanding. The rooms are way better than Serbia and the food for supper was fantastic. A fantastic creamy minestrone type soup, BEAUTIFUL bread, pasta, phenomenal chicken and then some incredibly sweet cantaloupe for dessert. Hard to tell I enjoyed the meal. The hardest part about the meal was afterwards when we were sitting there, bright as can be outside, looked at my watch and it was 9:50pm. Didn't get "dark" dark til about 10:30.
After supper Shawnee went to bed but Lisa and I decided to stay downstairs and enjoy a coffee. VERY strong but with enough sugar it became good. We enjoyed a conversation and a coffee along with the hotel dog. Yes the hotel has a dog. An old Bull Terrier type dog that is wobbly but friendly as can be. She greets the guests and walks around like she owns the place. Pretty awesome.
Tomorrow we have a 9:30 breakfast, a meeting, a pre-hab session, lunch, a video session then practice. A full day. I am going to try and find a few minutes to explore around the grounds a bit. It looks awesome.
So a short blog post today but I need to head off to bed. Been a long day.
Until tomorrow........
