Phase 2 - Day 8

Well Day 8 is over and so is this phase of training. Off to Asia tomorrow. Not really looking forward to 18 hours of travel but what can I do. It is also not the fun vacation some think it is. We will get to see a few things but in my role I go from gym to meeting to practice to computer screen or any combination of the above. It is always busy and not always easy to get out and see things. I'll get some pics from the bus no doubt and we'll see some things but the schedule is hectic. The food is always in question as well. Who knows what we might get.

Another glitch is that the airline only allows one carry on bag. I am trying to jam everything into my checked bag and it's not working really well. Gotta get creative here.

On to today. We had a 9AM breakfast and a 9:30 video session. I took the girls through the Japan edit and talked about what they tried to do when we played them. We then headed over to the gym for practice at 11. We went for an hour and a half and the defense was very good but our offense was pretty shitty. Maybe we will get it when we are overseas. We headed out to lunch immediately after and then to another coaches meeting. We talked mostly about how we would defend some of Japan's offense.
I packed most of my stuff afterwards and watched part of a documentary on famous LA Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela. An impressive story. Why the hell would I watch that? I loved watching him as a kid even though I hated the Dodgers.

We went back over to the gym at 6pm for our second practice. The assistants for the university games teams were in so they got to watch the practice. It wasn't much. We shot the ball quite a bit and went through some of our offense. Not a vigorous practice. I brought the computer and projector over to the gym and at the end of practice we showed some clips and then walked through how we would defend Japan.

After practice we grabbed supper here and then headed out with the coaching staff of the university games team and our team. Where did we go?? Oh right, Starbucks. I am getting sick of the place. It was nice to get out and chat with everyone though.

So now I am waiting for laundry to finish. Tying up some loose ends on email and administrative stuff. I will also try to finish packing.

I am not sure if we will get internet access at the hotels in Japan or CHina so this might be the last of the blog. Who knows. We will see. This has been an interesting experience again and I am sure it will get much more interesting.

Until whenever
